Assistant to the Borough Manager

Looking for a job that makes a difference? Join the Kennett Square Borough team!

We are looking for an Assistant to the Borough Manager to work on a variety of high impact, high visibility projects. This position will place the right person on the fast track in their local government career!

Who we are: A small town of about 6,000 residents that is experiencing rapid change. Located approximately 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia and 20 minutes from the prestigious Longwood Gardens, the Borough serves as the primary urban center of southern Chester County. Roughly one half of our population is Hispanic, with many local mushroom workers calling our Borough home. We stand at the intersection of growth, housing, and food challenges, and intend to address each. The Borough operates under the Council/Manager form of government, with the Borough Manager responsible for all non-police operations of the Borough (the Borough Police Chief is responsible for Police operations).

The ideal candidate: A self-starter who is looking to work hard, learn, and contribute to a team. A Master’s degree in Public Administration and/or Planning is preferred and work experience is not required, though a potential benefit. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are a must, as is an ability and willingness to work independently. Spanish language proficiency is desired, though not required. An equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience may be considered. Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid State of Pennsylvania Driver License, with an acceptable driving record.

The job: You will be asked to do anything and everything in this fast-paced environment. Work involves project and program management spanning administration, IT, grants, communications, and planning functions. Tasks and projects will be fluid, so a comfort with rapid change and ambiguous direction is needed. This role will provide the perfect person with a substantial amount of mentorship and opportunity for growth. The Borough is committed to helping this person grow in the city management profession, by providing a supportive environment that encourages creativity and new ideas.

What we offer: Full benefit package including a competitive salary, paid time off, pension, health, dental, and vision benefits.

Interested? Full job description is attached. Submit your cover letter and résumé to the Borough Manager at kcoleman@kennettsq.org. Applications will be accepted through June 30th.
