The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) is now accepting applications for the Flanik Family Scholarship for Student Veterans. The Flanik Family Scholarship for Student Veterans will provide scholarship and financial assistance to currently enrolled undergraduate students who are U.S. military veterans, enabling them to pursue their educational goals and reach their fullest potential. This scholarship was made possible by a Forever Orange Campaign Gift from Barry G. Flanik and Kirsten P. Flanik. The application is open to all currently enrolled Syracuse University Undergraduate Student Veterans. The amount of the scholarship is $2,500. 

 

1. Deadline. Sunday, (11:59 p.m.) EST, February 19th 2023. NO applications will be accepted after the deadline.

2. How to apply. The application packet includes a cover letter, resume and essay questions. Your scholarship application will be considered based on the quality and content of your essay question responses. If you do not provide responses to all questions on this application or fail to complete the application process as instructed, your application will be incomplete, and you will not be considered for the scholarship.

 

3. Essay questions. Please answer each essay question in 200-300 words and attach it to the scholarship application as a separate document.

a. What impact has military service had on you? Please describe your greatest challenge in transitioning to higher education and how you overcame that challenge. 

 

b. Please describe your academic and career goals. How will your academic and/or career aspirations benefit others in your community.

c. Why should you be chosen to receive the Flanik Family Scholarship for Student Veterans?

 

d. The Flanik Family Scholarship for Student Veteran is built on the premise of provide scholarship and financial assistance to undergraduate students who are military veterans, enabling them to pursue their educational goals and reach their fullest potential. Please describe how receiving this scholarship will help you achieve success.

 

4. Please note: If you are selected to receive the Flanik Family Scholarship for Student Veterans, you will be required to provide information for a donor recipient report prior to being awarded funds. OVMA will provide guidelines to the scholarship recipient upon selection notification.
