Wilder J. Leavitt and Mary P. Morningstar Scholarship for Military­-Connected Students Application 

 

Overview.

 
The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) is now accepting applications for the Wilder J. Leavitt and Mary P. Morningstar Scholarship for Military­-Connected Students. The Wilder J. Leavitt and Mary P. Morningstar Scholarship for Military­-Connected Students will provide scholarship and financial assistance to undergraduate veteran and/or military-connected students enrolled at Syracuse University. The application is open to all Syracuse University undergraduate military-connected students (both on-campus and online students). Priority will be given to students studying science or engineering. The amount of the scholarship is $3,500 awarded to two applicants during the Spring 2023 semester. 


Instructions.

 

Please read all the application instructions CAREFULLY!


1. Deadline. Sunday, (11:59 p.m.) EST, February 19th, 2023NO applications will be accepted after the deadline.

2. How to apply. The application packet includes a cover letter, resume and essay questions. Your scholarship application will be considered based on the quality and content of your essay question responses. If you do not provide responses to all questions on this application or fail to complete the application process as instructed, your application will be incomplete, and you will not be considered for the scholarship.
 
3. Essay questions. Please answer each essay question in 200-300 words and attach it to the scholarship application as a separate document.
 
a.   How would you describe your leadership skills? How has your military service, or preparation for military service shaped your leadership skills?

b.   Please provide an example that demonstrates your engagement in your community and the impact your service has had on your civic engagement. (200-300 words)

c.   Please describe your commitment to academic success as evidenced by challenging coursework and your engagement on campus, including your extracurricular activities. Please describe how these commitments have challenged or impacted you. (200-300 words)

d.   Why should you be chosen to receive the Wilder J. Leavitt and Mary P. Morningstar Scholarship for Military­-Connected Students? Please describe how receiving this scholarship will positively affect you. (100-200 words)

4. Please note: If you are selected to receive the Wilder J. Leavitt and Mary P. Morningstar Scholarship for Military­-Connected Students, you will be required to provide information for a donor recipient report prior to being awarded funds. OVMA will provide guidelines to the scholarship recipient upon selection notification.
