Job Title
'CuseWorks: Office of Student Living – Resident Advisor (RA) 2023-2024

Note to Applicants
Please be further advised that Syracuse University reserves the right to modify, at any time and without notice, the requirements, expectations, and guidelines for the RA appointment, including, without limitation, changing the dates of placement or removing you from on-campus housing or your appointment based on public health concerns or the operational needs of Syracuse University.

Overview
The Resident Advisor (RA) is a student leadership appointment within Student Living (SL) and broader Student Experience Division at Syracuse University. The RA serves as an engaged and visible student leader, a University resource, and support to their residents, engaging through our curriculum, the SL Playbook, in order to promote a safe, secure, and welcoming living environment which encourages and prompts co-curricular learning for all residential students. Ultimately the RA is a community connector who develops individual relationships with residents and facilitates the development of a positive and inclusive residential community within their assigned area. In addition to community development, the RA helps to promote the safety and security of the residential community, assists with the enforcement of relevant University & Student Living Policies, and completes relevant administrative responsibilities related to the operations of the residence hall(s). RAs report directly to a Residence Director (RD) and indirectly to other in-hall SL Professional Staff (Residence Directors and Residence Hall Operations Coordinators) as well as SL Leadership. RAs work collaboratively with fellow student leaders (Resident Advisors and Main Desk Assistants) and campus partners while completing relevant tasks.

Eligibility Requirements
  • RAs must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:
  • Full-time enrollment as a Syracuse University student; undergraduate RAs may not exceed 18 credits/semester and graduate RAs may not exceed 12 credits/semester.
  • Completed at least two (four or more preferred) undergraduate semesters by time of appointment with at least one of those (two or more preferred) semesters having lived in residence at Syracuse University.
  • Hold both current and cumulative GPAs at or above the minimum requirement: undergraduate RAs (2.50), graduate RAs (3.00), and SU Law RAs (2.20).
  • Be in good academic, conduct, and financial standing with the University.

Benefits
RAs will be provided with a single room and a meal plan for each semester of placement. RAs will be provided with the Block 220 Plan (220 meals for the semester and $200 Dining Dollars) plus an addition $400 in Dining Dollars (totaling $600 dining dollars); please note that this meal plan is active upon one’s move-in date and therefore meals will be covered by this meal plan throughout training periods. Should an RA start or leave the RA appointment outside of the beginning or end of an academic semester, the associated room and board fees will be prorated accordingly, and the remaining balance is the responsibility of the RA. RAs are also provided with priority registration in order to accommodate for necessary scheduling of RA responsibilities. Due to the nature of the RA role and the leadership development that occurs by holding such an appointment, RAs develop leadership skills as well as a myriad of other transferable skills, which may aid them in future opportunities beyond the RA appointment.

This is a non-federal work student position, and acceptance of this position may impact one's financial aid package. Applicants are encouraged to consult with their financial aid counselor regarding the impact of the RA position on their financial aid package.
